MCPayne, it always amazes me, with all the people the crew serves, somehow they remember your name and what you like. I always remember, just because someone is a waiter in the dining room or a cabin steward or a bar tender, they always have other duties. They may be a host/hostess, run room service, serve cocktails, etc. They never rest and always seem to be pleasant. I'm sure there are times they'd like to scream

I am amazed that people would even question the tipping. I think it is awfully cheap for the amount of work they do for us...they deserve more and usually get it from us.

Penny, that's another thing that many first time cruisers may not realize. If a crew member is not senior staff, they have more than one job.

I may have told this story before, so forgive me if it's not the first time you've seen it. When we were on Norwegian Majesty in 2005, the maitre d' looked very familiar to us. When he got closer and we saw the name on his tag, we remembered that he had been our waiter on NCL's Dreamward back in 1995. He told us he came over as he recognized us, and remembered serving us on Dreamward... he mentioned exactly where we sat. Of course, the skeptic in me said to myself that he would know where we sat, as that was his station. Yet, that skepticism was short-lived when he followed with, "Weren't your parents traveling with you on that cruise? How are they?" WOW... they had been!

I hope we were remembered for good reasons! (And, yes, the maitre d' received a nice tip from us!)

similar experience for us
In 2004 we were on an Oceania cruise, one of the waiters had helped carry our bag onboard (back when they did that)
fast forward 2008 we were in the lounge at teatime & saw Sven, he kept looking at us then finally came over & said .."nice to see you again you were on the British isles cruise"
I was gobsmacked that he would even remember us let alone the cruise we were on

They have open seating so it is not like you even have the same waiter everyday

Amazing memories
