You can edit your profile to remove info. Click on your name in a post, go to view public profile, and then click on the link in the top right corner. This will take you to the private profile area where you can adjust things. Just remember to save it at the bottom when done.
Also, do you have to be an admin in order to change your display name? When I click on the link to my profile the display name does not appear to be in a field that I can change.

This is a sad commentary of our times. I enjoy to see the countdown clocks of the posters, see where they are going, etc. I also enjoy watching my own clock countdown!
I am so naive. I just never thought of someone turning the clocks against us. Wouldn't you think the same could be applied to our "doc dances"? They indicate you are leaving home within 30 days or so. Doggone it! Sometimes technology just isn't all it's cracked up to be!!
I was being stupid by using my full name and city, which I have since changed. But I have an internet presence that spans many years and a google of me will still find things I wrote ages ago.
I think if you use some caution in your choice of forum name and don't give too much information in your public profile you'll be okay to use countdowns. Granted I am still a bit paranoid but I'll probably get back to using them.
It is unnerving to see how much info is available on the internet. Most people have no idea. My mother has been dead for 13 years but I recently found a website with excerpts from the town's newsletter from WWII (they printed it monthly and sent it to the locals who were in the service) which mentioned her getting married to her first husband.
Based upon Dave's comments I reinstituted my cruise tickers after I cleaned up my cruise-chat profile a bit. His concerns are well worth considering by all of us!!
