Humms, I wonder why it took 20 homes for them to piece this together. All on a Royal Caribbean cruise and all booked with a certain PVP.

That is beyond ridiculous. If I didn't live in a gated community I doubt I'd even have a cruise ticker posted. Not that that would stop a thief or that I have anything of much value. I certainly don't want anyone breaking in to my home.

Better safe than sorry with posting too much information and especially clues as to when you won't be home now a days. There are some pretty efficient people on the internet with targeting people away from home.

I first heard about those kinds of burglaries about 40 years ago. Folks started asking acquaintances to stay in their home when they went off to the funeral of their loved one. Talk about kicking someone when they're down.

I watch Dragnet on a classic TV network we get. They had a show where a burglar played by Burt Mustin was doing the same thing - he'd hit houses where people were at funerals, weddings, and other things listed in the newspaper.

We were burglarized last year and it still affects our behavior. We lock all the doors, even when we are at home. We also do other things that I don't want to mention in public. It wasn't so much the loss of the items as it was the feeling of being violated.

I was robbed in Vegas. The "casino host" knew I had just sold my house and had arranged a room for me. They were very brazen, they robbed me while I was sleeping. I know I had locked the door, so the ONLY way they could have come in was with a card.

You're right, Dave, it's a feeling of being violated. Unfortunately, what they did take from me could not be replaced. I had made a ring out of all my mom's rings after she passed away. It wasn't worth that much, just sentimental value. They did leave me my cigarettes, but nothing else.

this is as old as the hills. hotel emplyee's have done this for years.

We use a housesitter as we have a cat with diabetes who needs watching. Even so, my business address goes on everything -- luggage tags included.

Also be careful what you post in your facebook status. Even though it's tempting to tell everyone you're enjoying your vacation somewhere exotic, it may not be the wisest thing.

It's a shame it has to be like this. I remember when I grew up in a small place in mid Norway, one could leave the house unlocked when going to the store or another short trip. This is not possible anymore no matter where you live.
