DW and I will be flying from DTW to MIA then MIA to SJU on AA same day. DW purchased the air on travilocity for the DTW to MIA portion and will be purchasing the MIA to SJU portion from AA. Both directs and considering Michigan in January seemed like a good decision. Is there a way to get the MIA to SJU portion as a connecting flight so as not to contend with picking up luggage in MIA and rechecking it to go to SJU? Return will be SJU to MIA with a week post cruise so connector isn't an issue.

Just book DTW to SJU all on one ticket.

Pick the flights you want (don't book it) then call AA and see if they can switch to the connecting flights
