Or you could say "I was born this way, What's your excuse?"

Jack:

If worse comes to worse, you can complain to security about the rude passengers harrasing you and/or everyone else.

Luckily, I have never been in a situation like that. I have witnessed situations involving such "Low-Life" passengers in action. Usually, they were also under the influence of alcohol too. But they usually targeted the crew members instead of other passengers. I saw some passengers from my ship being rude to a shore excursion guide while in Cozumel. Rude in the most obnoxious way, shouting things like "Speaky-English buddy!". It was disgraceful. Foreigners form impressions of Americans in situations like that. I later apologized to that tour guide; even though I was not the one who should have apologized.

Our 16 year old son is a special needs child. He has had to deal with "comments" all his life (almost as many from adults as kids oddly enough)

His standard response is: "Hey, God made me this way. If YOU have a problem, go talk to Him!"

That is a great response! Your 16 year old sounds pretty bright!

I for one don't understand the concept of someone making such remarks to another person.

Frankly I can't see this happening. On every cruise our group been on most, if not all, of the passengers were courteous, and polite. We have made numerous friends across this country & in other countries that we have stayed in contact with for 5 years.

This is a non-issue!!

Jack,
As a "Brit" you should appreciate this: Just paraphrase what Sir Winston Churchill said:

"...yes madam, I may be drunk but you're ugly. Tomorrow morning, I'll be sober and you'll still be ugly!"

Then tell them to bugger off!

First of all I am suprised that this has come up again after such a long time.

I also think that on 99% of cruises you go on there will be no problems and no incidents of people being rude to you.

That doesn't mean that its a "non issue"
I've seen posts on other forums that complain of bad behaviour, rowdyness and rude passengers.

I can't remember where the actual posts I saw were from but I recall some people having trouble with a problem family , so bad that they asked that the family should be taken off the ship....and this didn't happen

Also in feb 2006 a poster on another forum called " blackbird " made the following obsevations in their post where they claimed that children were unsupervised and allowed into the nightclubs where they made a nusience, giving abuse and swearing at other passengers when they were on an ocean village cruise.

As I said most times you will have a great cruise and never come across problems of rudeness etc.....but on very rare ocaisions you may find rude horrible people ( or uncontrolled kids ) and you will have to deal with it.

Chuck....you know your quotes
