Walkie Talkies?? Help!

Hello, I am not new to this whole crusing thing, but I was wondering if there were any other ways to keep connected with friends and family except walkie talkies. Yes, walkie talkies are great but somtimes there is static and/or you wont hear the dang thing when your friends/family try to find or talk to you. And dont even get me started on cell phones!!!!

A good set of walkie talkies work just fine. I use Cobra 3 Watt and they are very clear.

Look for the radios that say GMRS, these are the higher power ones. If you watch the sales you should be able to get some 5 watt ones pretty cheap. Make sure they have the privacy code feature or you will have to listen to everyone else.

Actually I have commercial radios that run about $1,000 each. However 5 watts is 5 watts just get a good brand like Motorola or Cobra. The important thing is that they have the power to cover the ship and that they have the privacy code feature.

I was just curious what you are using as I use 3 watt cobras with the privacy codes which easily cover the ships I have been on and also ship to shore when you need to tender. Thanks

if the cruise is during Spring break, walkie talkies will be in use by everyone and you will be lucky to get a free channel and a word in edge-wise. Been there done that. Would recommend leaving walkie talkies home and make pre-arranged times to meet.

Never had that problem. there are always plenty of free channels!
