my hubby picked up some generic luggage years before we met (about 22 or so years) and we are still using it. It is a canvas type luggage. Now the kids are older and they are using some pieces seperate from ours and we picked up a couple carry on types but still use the old faithful. I think there are probably cheap luggage that is made well and maybe expensive luggage that was made on a bad day, you know, like Friday or Monday.
Thanks Sonnyv for the reply, and I noticed you are leaving on December 9th on Voyager of the Seas, so we're going at almost the same time. After 30+ cruises, are you still excited? Me, I can't wait for my first .

Stay away from Skyway they sell cheap on internet..the wheel supports break. Auburnsiren mentioned Atlantic. A lady at the recycle place was throwing one away, I asked if I could have it..she said sure. just got some new ones and don't like the green. She drove away in her Mercedes..A great suitcase, with solid wheels, and alot of extras inside, it is canvas though.
I have seen a few German tourists carrying a brand of luggage with the name "Rimowa" (or similar spelling). It looks as if it is made of aircraft grade aluminum. Looks very tough and durable. It probably is very expensive too, but probably well worth it. I would spend my money on that brand of luggage if I could afford it.
Rimowa is great - and expensive. My brother recently bought one of their latest developments, no longer made of aluminum but of a special plastic that is flexible and ultra-light. No matter what you do (jump onto the suitcase etc.) the plastic will always return to its original shape afterwards.
I bought a cheap pair of rolla boards in '95 for $25. each ...it is the "ballistic material" (sp?) one the handles got damaged in the throwing game the cruise and airlines play and the other one is still hanging in.
I bought a replacement for $25. about 3 trips ago & it is still rolling along
Our first set of luggage 36 yrs ago was a cheap pr ($5.ea) of hardsided cases made from cardboard coated in plastic material. They lasted so long I could not believe it.
I was just hoping they would make it to Bermuda & back.

i like swiss army brand. it has a built in garment bag and is expandable. not cheap but well worth the extra money. don't buy red. it shows dirt really bad.
