On the 7 day cruises, there are 2 formal nights. Don't feel pressured into going all-out with formal gowns, etc. unless you just have one that you want to wear. Formal nights aren't near as stuffy as they used to be and are actually kind of fun to watch.

On formal nights you will see everything from tuxes and long gowns to dockers and a dress shirt. Your cocktail outfits should be fine. Carnival is not as strict as some lines, but most do not want jeans and sandals (flip flop type) in the dining rooms.

While I very much enjoy the dressing up in a tuxedo, most guys wear suits and some a sport jacket.
As for the woman, cocktail dresses seem to be the attire. Last year my wife picked up an outfit cosisting of a long black skirt and a black top for $8.00 at a consignment shop and dressed it up with jewelry. She recieved more positive comments about that outfit than the ones she has spent big bucks on.
She was dropping off outfits at the consignment shop from previous cruises when she saw the one she bought.
My point is there is no need to spend a bunch of money on formal wear but dressing to the "dress code of the day" is the right thing to do.

Gary! We should start a lottery pool on how long you are onboard the ship before your wife stops talking to you! I probably won't make it past the lifeboat drill...unless I get hammered on the plane first!

Hi Keith,
I want to wear my dinner jacket etc. to the formal evenings but I don't want to look out of place if others aren't wearing one. What's your opinion did you wear your's?
Cheers
Peter
