I have read many posts and it seems that knowing what cruise we are taking is important to the quality of the answers one receives. We are looking at a Carnival Triumph cruise to the Bahamas in November, sailing from Charleston, SC. It is only a 5 day cruise with ports at Freeport and Nassau. So, keeping that in mind, what are some of the better excursions? What does Freeport and Nassau shopping offer? I have searched and found that one needs only 3 pair of shoes-- my concern is the type of clothing that is required. Also, what are some of the money pits on the ship to avoid?

Thank you to any who respond.

I have not been to either of those ports in a very long time but I am pretty confident in saying that the shopping will be better in Nassau. I'll leave the excursion discussions to those that have been there recently.

Money Pits on the ship- Ignoring the casino, the big two are the Photo shop and the Spa. I find that the Photo's are the biggest money pit as you know going in if you are going to be using the Spa you can spend money there. The photo's can sneak up on your pocket book. They are constantly snapping photo's of you in hopes you will buy them. I think they charge $12 to $15 a piece (my wife does the photo buying so don't quote me). If I don't really try to control the number she buys we can easily spend $300 on photos. But I don't have too much to talk about since I send more than that in the casino..
The other big expense thing would be the spa. If you plan on having a massage or your nails/hair done or something like that you can expect to spend about $150 to $200 per massage treatment.

Shoes- Pick your outfits wisely so that you can use the same pair or two of dress shoes with more than one outfit. Then a pair of walking shoes or athletic shoes for sightseeing. So yes, 3 pairs is doable.

Hi momu, welcome to Cruise-Chat. Congratulations on your up-coming cruise, just be warned, cruising is addictive I take 3 pairs of shoes with me. 1 pair of dress shoes with matching purse, 1 pair of water shoes, and 1 pair of tennis shoes. You can always bring some nice dress slacks with different tops and a skirt or a sun dress. Nassau-go to Atlantis, after you've walked around there, you can go to Cabbage Beach which is adjacent to the Atlantis property. I haven't been to Freeport in a while either, Lucaya used to be really nice. The other money pit would be the bars, it doesn't take too many drink of the days to add up. Best wishes for a fantastic cruise, and once again, welcome aboard!

Welcome to cruising and Cruise-Chat Momu

I agree with the other two

Money pits = Bars or alcoholic drinks, casino, spa and photos. We had a few drinks but we mostly drank soda or tea. There was an option to get a soda sticker for our seapass so we could get unlimited soda it was I think 40 bucks to get that but we shared our soda so we didnt both buy the sticker. We bought one bottle of wine which was a bit expensive and went EXTREMELY fast. The waiter tended to refill our wine glasses before we were done and before we knew it the bottle was gone! If your around the camera and dont want the temptation of seeing your photos that you dont want to buy you can always politely decline, they dont harass you.

Shoes - Penny does the same as me. Also with clothing just wear what your comfortable in. I saw people wearing formal wear every night at dinner to just jeans and a tshirt. I usually bring my normal everyday close, bathing suit needs, work out outfit and some formal wear. Our ship had 2 formal nights even at those I just brought a nice skirt and blouse but I felt a bit underdress compared to the women in elegant evening wear. But no one ever harassed me about what I choose to wear.

Also dont forget to leave a little space in case you do buy something. We left no space and then had an issue getting our stuff back home

Of course that isnt a problem if you dont plan to spend alot of buy larger things.

Happy Cruising feel free to ask about anything you think of
