During our Panama Canal trip we found out they have webcams at the locks. Click here www.pancanal.com so you can watch the ships go thru and the construction of the new locks. Our children were able to see our ship in the locks 4000 miles away.
The link is impressive but everyone needs to experience the canal in person at least once in their life to understand the huge scope of the project. Everyone needs to see exactly what goes on in getting a ship from one elevation to another. Whether you do a half transit or a full transit, you will find the canal one of the top 10 wonders of the man-built world.
We just did the full transit 10/3/08 west to east and could do it again. Maybe wait until the new locks are finished, they are trying for 2014 for the 100th year anniversary. The 100 year old technology and the locks are still working. Maybe after looking at the link they will do the cruise.
