My wife and I and another couple are interested in taking a Eastern Caribbean 7 day cruise in February 2009. We are all in our mid 40s. Ive heard we are about 20 years to young for this cruise line. Would appreciate any input concerning this.
Thanks,
Dikcccb6

Now days I would hardly consider people 60 old and no fun. There is no reason you can't go on Holland America and have a great time. HAL is a Premium cruise line. It is true for years they drawed an older clientele. They have been trying for years now to reverse that image. The newer ships with HAL are drawing families and younger clientele. Their average age is closer to 47-50. I would say they have more refined entertainment. If you and your friends are looking for a cruise with very lively more party atmosphere than one of the other cruise lines may be a better choice. I would recommend you speak with a cruise oriented Travel Agent that can help you determine which cruise lines best suits your needs.

Hi dikcccb6, welcome to Cruise-Chat. On a 7 day itinerary, the demographics will be younger than on longer itineraries. You will not run into a bunch of children, because they will be in school. As Cruise Fanatic states, HAL is known for a more refined experience. My co-worker and her husband took them for their honeymoon last year (they are early 40s) and had a wonderful time. There are plenty of lines that cruise the Caribbean, so talking to a cruise specialist would be a great idea. They can match your interests to the best ship. Best wishes and once again, welcome aboard!

Whoo hoo! Coincidence here as we just booked the February cruise on Noordam yesterday but it is a 10 day cruise. We had the same question as you but in reading everywhere on the net I'm pretty comfortable that they are reaching out to other age groups - complete with teen center and children facilities if I read it right. I suspect it may just be a little more posh and adult so I'm looking forward to it. I've tried NCL whose food and service I love and Carnival where I loved the food less and now I'm ready to step it up with this cruise. I read the Noordam was rated 5 star for the ship and 5 star for the food so basically that is all I need...that and a casino and a disco-like club and ports to die for and age seemed the least of our worries but we'll see. Of course we may get the one cranky neighbor on the ship but that would be our luck. I suspect with all these lines you just have to evaluate what you appreciate and go for it. btw on the Carnival which had a reputation as party central it was more like family central. Reputations may not mean much as lines evolve. Can't help you but just thought I'd point out how we narrowed it down.

Thank you for your responses. This will be our first full week vacation without the kids. So we are looking for a more adult oriented cruise. We are not looking for a "Party Ship". However, we are looking for some fun nightlife. HAL is looking as the right choice for us http://cruise-chat.com/groupee_commo...icon_smile.gif

I remember our first cruise...it was on HAL. Don't ever underestimate older people.

There was this guy named Manny and his wife - both were in their mid-70's at the time - and I don't think they slept more than 4 hours a night. They would be at the karaoke, dancing up a storm in the disco, they'd be at the midnight buffet, and then I'd see them on deck at 7am the next morning. This was in 1992 so I wonder if Manny and his wife are still with us, but they lived it up in grand style on that cruise! I think it was their 50th cruise with HAL.
