I am booked on the Volendam in January and we're trying to book a second cabin. There is only one left, D3429 which turns out to be at the very back of the ship, apparently all by itself. Sort of. It's on Lower Promenade Deck and looks like it's larger than the rest (W/C accessible I think)
Anyway, is anybody familiar with this ship (or its' relatives) and able to advise whether this is a desirable cabin? Generally speaking, is this considered a good/bad location to be in?
One possible drawback I've thought of is that you're paying the bigger bucks for an outside with the window but really, the view would be limited to the wake of the ship. Yes,no?
All answers will be much appreciated. We were able to put this cabin on hold til Saturday so I have only a little time to decide.
Thanks, gang! Always good to know you're here.
While I have not been on the Volendam, all the outside cabins on that deck actually overlook the promenade deck, so the view from the rear would not be much different than any other on that deck. The rear of the ship is usually considered a desirable location (particularly if there is a balcony), so, being that it is the only cabin left - I would probably book it.
Thanks, Nancy. We actually had a second option arise, an F category on Dolphin (lowest) midship just down from the elevator. An ordinary outside cabin. We went with it as it's for almost newlyweds and it was deemed to be a bit more private than Promenade deck. We'll kinda check out that rear cabin while on the ship, just to drive ourselves crazy if it looks like it would have been the way to go. It's a bit of a crap shoot sometimes, isn't it?!!
