Anyone been on the Oosterdam recently? Taking it
in spring to Mex Riviera. How is the Oosterdam, is it a nice ship (tell me all about it), booked Deluxe Ver Suite Guarn is that good? Is the water calm on Mex Riviera and do they stay close to the coast or should I expect rough waters?
The only question I can answer is that I was on the Oosterdam 2 years ago and loved it. It is a gorgeous ship, the food was great and the crew was wonderful. Let me know how your cruise goes, we are thinking about that cruise in 2008. Have a great time!
We were on the Oosterdam two years ago from Ft. Lauderdale through Panama Canal to San Diego, and last year on Alaska cruise out of Seattle. Very nice ship, as are all the HAL vessels. Great crew, Indonesian housekeeping/dining and Phillipinos for all the liquor service/bars, etc. The Dutch run the casino and back office operations. Hopefully, Captain Jonathan Mercer is still running the ship; the crew thinks he is the best in the HAL fleet and they work hard for him. He is a really nice guy to talk to, be sure to meet him.
When we were cruising between Costa Rica and Acapulco we had one night of very windy weather, but there was never any risk to the ship or passengers, just made it a little interesting. I wouldn't worry about rough seas that much on the shorter "Riviera" cruise. In any case you are in good hands on the Oosterdam. Your suite will be great, you always want to have a verandah.
i went on oosterdam to alaska in july have been on 6 cruises this was by far the best cruise i was ever on it was great you will have a good time on this ship have fun enjoy
I did the Mexican Riviera on another line in early December. We had smooth waters, but both the sailing before and after ours had one very rough day at the end sailing back to San Diego. A friend went from LA the week after us and also had the rough day at the end going back to LA. I would think in spring this would not happen, but the sea was smooth on all three of these weeks, except for just one day out of seven.
