Latest Embarkation?

We're surprising my father-in-law upon aproach in dining room OR sending a message to meet on back deck for Bon Voyage. We live near Vancouver (our embarkment port), so would like to board as late as possible so as not to "bump" into him beforehand. Doing Alaska on Volendam.
So, what is the latest time?

I believe that you must be on board no later than 1 hour before depature, but I would call HAL to make sure. There are plenty of places to hide out on the Volenadam, so you should be safe even if you have to board a bit earlier. We were on the Volendam to Alaska in May, so I hope you have a wonderful time. We really love the ship, crew and staff.
