I have always wondered if the cruise line will provide a list of entertainers which are scheduled on a ship. Do they? Are their websites that provide that information? I am a Julie Barr Fan and am hoping to catch her late night comedy once again on the Zuiderdam!

The only way to will know who is performing is once you get on the ship. BUT, I have found that some of the entertainers have myspace.com pages and list the dates that they will be performing. You could try to run a search and see if Julie has one.

I couldnt agree with you more about her, we saw her on the Zuiderdam in August of 05 and she had a standing room only audience...she was a hoot!!

I remember we talked about her in the past. Her late night adult only show was so good. We saw her in 04, and then again in 05. We were on the sailing the week before you. I believe you had the extended stay because of the hurricane!

This is a topic that I have a bit of interest in. When we go on our Alaska Cruise in July, I am only looking forward to the views, the side trips, and the food. The onboard evening entertainment and the casino gaming, are way down the on the list of what I am looking foward to on my first cruise. I seem to be missing something as you folks seem to be placing a great deal of value in that aspect of cruising.

Do I have my priorities wrong?

Not at all;
that is the great think about cruising: so many different activities and amusements; and you get to pick and choose the ones that interest you. If you have given the entertainment a chance and just were not , well, entertained, so what; it's not your thing.
I'm with you on the casino; could care less.
Evening shows? Maybe; maybe not.
My work is stressful so I cruise for relaxation and food.
I have found though that if there is a buzz on the ship about a particular show or entertainer, it's probably worth catching.
All the best!

I do believe we have spoke about this, yep, we got on the ship right after the hurricane hit FLL. No extra time on the ship, but we were out in the water while Katrina was hitting New Orleans.

Honestly to the other posters, I do not put priority on the entertainers...but Julie Barr was one of the best we have seen on a cruise ship. My first priority on a cruise is to be on the ship and cruise...then where the cruise is going is next..just put me on a ship..lol.

Regarding entertainement onboard I liken it to my golf game. If I lower my expectations, I tend to enjoy it more. I am not Phil Mickelson and its not the Masters so its okay if I don't make the shot I had imagined. On the ship to lower my expectations I can then be pleasantly surprised by stand-out performers.

What bothers me most is comedians who only get laughs if they take it into the gutter. Maybe they could try a little harder and be funny on their own?

I don't go on cruises with a priority on the entertainers either. For the most part they are either young people with some talent trying to make a break in the business that will lead to better things, or B-listers and those in the declining years of their act just making a living. Every so often you will find a "name" talent being featured. If this happens on a cruise, I'll make an effort to go to the show. Otherwise I tend to stick with going to one of the "big shows" and otherwise just listen to the bands in the lounges. You are not going to see Broadway or Vegas quality on a ship - although some come close. NCL used to be a leader in show quality. Best show I ever saw on a ship - Grease on the Norwegian Sea. It was quite impressive. Second best show - Will Rogers Follies on the Norway.

I really have grown tired of the usual revues one sees on ships these days. Songs Of the 50's, Broadway Through The Years, Rock and Roll Blah Blah Blah, etc. They appeal to the first time cruiser.

I do enjoy the evenings shows. To me, its all part of the cruise experience. I saw the Nelsons on my last two RCCL cruises and they do their dad justice by playing some of his songs. In addition, I still enjoy the illusionist but can take it or leave it when it comes to jugglers. I enjoy a good Laugh and if there is a comedian on board, I will always give it a shot.
