Late August to Alaska

Anyone go to Alaska late August? Any down side to this?

Was on the Oosterdam sailing of August 19. It was a wonderful experience. Saw Bears, seals and Whales. Once heads to Alaska for the beauty of Nature. I suggest you take a cruise where the roof closes to cover the pool. In that way, you can sit or swim (which the kids do) and not be affected by the rainy weather. Can you be more specific of what downside you may be concerned with?

We were on the 8-27 sailing of the Ryndam. We only got rained on in Skagway and it was a bit cold that day, otherwise cloudy but no rain. This time of year is the rainy season, even in Anchorage. You will still have a great time. We saw a lot of animals as well. If you take a cruise into Glacier Bay our ship was the first one allowed in this year because they dont want the seal pups and moms getting separated. Have a great time. We sailed the Oosterdam 2 years ago on its maiden voyage into Alaska. Its a great ship as well.

I do not know what a downside might be, so thought I would ask you good people at cruisechat. I noticed that the average temp for August and July are nearly the same, and Sept only 2 degrees cooler. End of August is only 20 minutes darker than early August. This year, there was actually less rain in later August, but average is higher. The cruise staff should be good at their jobs by then, hopefully still enthusiastic. Everything else should be good.
