This is pretty cool. The Veendam's recent upgrades included making some promenade cabins into "Lanai" cabins with sliding glass doors that open onto the promenade deck. They have one way glass to prevent people from peering into the cabins. Read the story in our Cruise News Section

That's an interesting idea for HAL. I sailed on Delta Queen's ship, American Queen, a few years ago in a similar type of stateroom. The Promenade offered easier access to some parts of the ship than did the internal hallway, plus very nice opportunities to open the door, step out to the rail, and see the river. One problem was that we could hear every footstep of folks walking by on the wooden promenade. No one was jogging on that cruise, but I wonder if the problem is worse with joggers (or canes or folks with walkers...) going 'round and 'round the deck?
