I have never been on a cruise. I want to know if you can use a cruise ship in the same manner as an airplane. Can I take a cruise ship to say Guatemala, disembark travel to El Salvador by car and then pick up the next ship say 7 days later and return home. I had an accident on American Airlines in 96 and have not flown since, hence the request.

No, you can't normally use a cruise ship in this manner. Some will allow you to debark early, but this depends on the port and you pay the full fare for the cruise. In other words, if it is a 7-day cruise and you get off after 4 days you still pay for the 7 days. So to answer your question theoretically.....if they allowed you to debark in Guatemala and then board a ship a week later you'd have to book two separate cruises.
