Canaletto's Restaurant
Is there an extra charge for eating at Canaletto's on the Nieuw Amsterdam? And if there is not an extra charge then how are gratuities handled? Would I tip cash or put the gratuity on my ship card?

Canaletto is included in the cruise price. This isn't an upscale restaurant, but rather a special casual dining venue. I would give any tips I felt necessary in cash. Reservations are recommended.

I'm going on the same cruise at the end of April.

What's the policy if you fail to make it to a reservation? Do you still get charged?

I read somewhere that there are special nights for the Manhattan restaurant. Is this true and where can I find out more info so I can book for them?

Will13 - on Holland America, the only place you will pay for a meal is in the Pinnacle Grill. Reservations are suggested, but I saw empty tables and I would think one would be able to walk up for dinner. Canaletto space is limited, so I would suggest reservations. There is no charge for dining at Caneletto.. If you are sailing on the Nieuw Amsterdam, you will also have the option to dine in Tamarind - Asian fusion dining. Lunch is complimentary, dinner is $15 pp.

Nieuw Amsterdam
Pinnacle grill is superb and IMHO better than Ruth Chris' for 1/4 the cost.
However please give the Tamarind a try, the food is a combination of Asian and Indonesian. By all means be especially polite when at the end of the meal your host or hostess will present you with some Tamarind pods and explain their origin and uses to you.
