Wink dinner question
Hi Everyone, here i go again with another food question. Guess what my favorite thing on cruise ships is!! I leave for Seattle one week from today!!! About dinner, I hear that HAL closes the lido deck for dinner and has waited service. I also hear they have great crab legs...the question is: would i be able to "snack" on crab legs before dinner then go up for my late seating for my entree? or would they somehow log in my room card and not be thrilled with me walking into the dining room after sitting in the lido?

I'd don't think they'd have a problem with that at all. My last cruise on HAL they couldn't do enough to please everyone. They didn't want anyone going hungry, that was for sure!

Rest assured that the Lido is open for dinner. I believe it may close from 4 - 5 to switch from lunch to dinner (I'll see if I can find my stuff from February to confirm this). In addition to Lido for dinner, there is also a corner of the Lido for Cannaletto's - Italian dining. This is no-fee dining, but reservations are recommended. I can't tell you about crab legs - don't eat'em. Be prepared, in the Lido, passengers don't serve their own food - it is served up for you - with the exception of salads at lunch and dinner, cereal and juice and danish in the morning, etc. Silverware is on the tables and there are servers to fetch and carry for you if you need help.

kmathi - if you stop by the Holland America Blog today, you'll see a posting "Cruise Diary - Culinary Delights" by a couple sailing in Europe on the Noordam. The Noordam is a sister ship to the Westerdam. Should give you some insight as to what to expect. . . Susan
