Next month Iíll be sailing on the Oosterdam to Mexico and I prefer to tip in person rather than the cruise line deducting gratuities and billing me. Will the cruise line remove the gratuities from my final statement at my request? Thank you.

Just go to the Guest Relations Desk the first day or two of your cruise, and ask that the gratuities be removed from your account. They will take care of it for you.

I know some folks who took a cruise to Alaska on Oosterdam last month, and loved the ship.

I know you'll have a great time.

Please remember when you remove the tips and give the tips out yourself, you will probably miss a few people who did in fact help make your cruise a nice one.
We prefer to pay the tips and also give extra to those who go above and beyond.

I always tip my room steward $20 on meeting he/she and then give them their earned tips at the end of the cruise too...I also carry $2 bills to give out to porters, baggage handlers, or anyone on the ship that does something over and above for me...The crew works hard, they deserve any, and all, tips they have earned...and more.....Having your tips added to your ships bill just makes it much easier...Happy sailing....

I love your idea about an up front $20 tip (guarantees extra service) as well as the $2 bill idea. Now if I can only find a local bank that carries them...

You seem to have copied, word for word, my response that I posted on Sept. 17, 2010. What's up with that?
