Billbo - I don't have an answer to your question. Because we are so limited in when we can go, and where my husband will go, I usually don't get much further than seeing that what is offered at the "special Mariner pricing" is not for when or where we are going. The simple response to you question is to maybe look at what is being offered then do a quick internet check on the pricing. I've found that AAA, Costco, Travelocity etc., usually have the same pricing for any cruise that I'm looking at . . the difference lies in what extras are being offered - ie free drink packages, on board credits, or whatever.
