As the latest Nieuw Amsterdam enters service comes word from HAL executives that they might look to larger ships down the road (or perhaps sea). 110,000 GRT and 3000 passengers are the numbers they floated in a trial balloon, mentioning that completion of the new Panama Canal in 2015 is the only constraint to size.

They did caution that they do not want to endanger HAL's longstanding tradition of personal service and attention to detail, which is what many HAL devotees are already concerned about.

Thanks for the Info Dave,

I've never sailed on Holland America but will be soon to the Panama Canal...Smallest ship I've been on...except for the USCG Unimac (311 foot cutter)...and after the Oasis, this should be a BIG change....Happy Sailing to us.

I suppose it is inevitable but I sure hate to see it happen. But then again, their smaller ships will be around for quite a while.
