Guess I'll have to root for Colorado as well, since we used to live there. Go Rockies!

would someone like to explain exactly what this world series is ?? http://cruise-chat.com/groupee_commo...n_confused.gif
How can you have a world series with only a couple of american teams ?? http://cruise-chat.com/groupee_commo...n_confused.gif |
I'm glad you asked this question Jack. Although internet legend claims the "World Series" had to do with the New York World newspaper sponsoring the contest (hence it supposedly being originally called "the World's Series), this is not true. Fact is that the title "World Series" started in the late 19th century when the only baseball in the world - at least at the professional level - was played in the U.S.A. and so the powers at the time decided to call it the World's Championship Series. As other countries became more active in baseball, nobody ever decided to change the name or to include teams from outside the U.S.A. as we do with Little League baseball's world series. So the term is really just an old one that continues to be used in modern times. I imagine Japan could petition the U.N. and demand a change, but baseball will always be known as "America's pastime".

I don't care who wins... I just hope it happens quickly so that our local news stations (both TV and radio) will resume the reporting of real news. http://cruise-chat.com/groupee_commo...icon_smile.gif

Yes Lisa, when it's over they'll have more time for the important news of the day about O.J. and Paris Hilton. Don't you just love the media?
Cheers, neil |
Yes, I suppose it could be worse. http://cruise-chat.com/groupee_commo...s/icon_eek.gif
But, the media really goes into overdrive here regarding the Red Sox. They're the top story on every network newscast. Even our main news radio station started off with analyses of the plays of the game, while glossing over stories such as the California fires and the presidential debate held the night prior. Besides, we're a basketball family. Go Celtics! |
I have to come down on the side of supporting the Sox, since I used to live in Boston and my daughter lives there now. We are officially part of "Red Sox Nation" south, here in the DC area.
