That would be wonderfully ironic given how some "real" pirates from the Captain Kidd era would disguise their ships and then strike - except in this case it would be in reverse.
I think an example needs to be made with these clowns in order to discourage future wannabes. I'm still big on the alpha strikes. That is some shock and awe for sure. Nothing quite like a carrier air wing coming in and unloading everything at once. Sort of the "Apocalypse Now" thing - one of the greatest movie scenes ever as the Air Cav blew in over the beach with Ride Of The Valkyries blaring, rockets and machine guns blazing. I love the smell of napalm in the morning.
While I'm not sure an alpha strike on the Somalia coast is the best plan (too many innocent lives could be lost) I fully believe there is need to start blowing pirate ships out of the water. There is absolutely no penalty for being a pirate right now. Having to worry about your life ending without notice would at least be an reason not to be a pirate. In the days of real pirates, the penalty was death. In most cases, without trial... time to bring that notion back.

Summary executions - I can go along with that. I realize we are drifting off into macho man territory here. So a serious option is to start using the unmanned drones with the missiles on them. See a pirate ship, fire a missile, splash one pirate ship.
I dont think I would worry to much being on board a cruise ship with all the military men on board( ex included), yall remember what happened when the bandits attack an excursion at a pineapple plantation....an ole military guy saved the day.
I am so proud of our military.

As I recall, that was in Costa Rica and the tour bus was held up by a couple of robbers. A retired Marine NCO attacked one of the thugs and killed him barehanded. I think the other guy was later found and arrested. They were on a Carnival cruise and were pretty much sent on their way after a brief police investigation. From what I saw and read, the retired Marine didn't seem traumatized by the episode and went on and enjoyed his cruise.
Too bad he wasn't a year or two younger. He probably would have killed the others too. I love stories like this - not the robbing part, but the part where the prospective victims say "no way, Jose".
In other news I just ordered another Walther PPK in 380. I had one for years and foolishly sold it. I'll keep the new one forever. Best concealed carry gun ever. (yes, I have a permit).
