I'm watching the U.S. Olympic Trials and I've already found my champion for the upcoming games. Dara Torres, age 41, and soon to be in her 5th Olympic games as a swimmer. She is absolutely amazing, whipping kids half her age! I love it!
They say she has a real shot at a gold medal or three.
I'm really proud of her, what an accomplishment. She's a mom, too! She did say it takes her a couple of hours a day of rub downs to ease the pain, but kudos!
As I get older I love seeing the 40 somethings excell. Also nice to see the youngsters get handed some humility in the sports arena occasionally. I loved it when George Foreman got the title back at 45! I've always liked rooting for the underdogs in sports and life, anyone in athletics at 40+ is an underdog in my book.
I read that she invited Olympic officials to drug test her as often as they wanted. They did. They tested her something like 15 times in the last year, and never found anything.
I'm rooting for her, too. What an accomplishment, just to qualify. I laughed when she said she's too old to see the scoreboard, to see her times and how she did!
