Definitly the ice storm of 97.No power for 9 days.$10,000 damage to my house. We were the only ones left on my block( because I had a wood stove) The army came in and made everyone else go to emergency shelters. 5 kids 4 adults and two dogs. what a week,no hot water for showers or laundry,We cooked on the woodstove and bbq.All the food in the freezer spoiled. one foot of ice on my roof, when it warmed up it was raining in my livingroom because of the condensation!

Bruce, why did the food in your freezer spoil? If it was an ice storm why didnt you just take the food outside??

I've taken a direct hit with hurricane Alicia in, I think 83. total devastaion of my neighborhood although my only major loss was power for 2 weeks and water for two days.

Funny thing is, the most damaging storm here in Houston in several decades was a little tropical storm call Allison. It stalled over us and dropped 15" of rain in some areas in an hour. Then continued to rain for days as it stalled. The news broadcasts were beyond belief as 18 wheelers floated down our freeways in 20+ ft of water in areas of our city. It's not always the the strongest storms that cause the most destruction.

In California we don't have hurricanes, but we do have earthquakes. The worst earthquake I've been in was the one in 1989 that collapsed the San Francisco/Oakland Bay Bridge. I was just getting off of work and hopping onto a cable car when I saw two buildings literally slap together and pieces of the buildings started to fall towards our cable car. That was scary!

I worked in a prison as a nurse and there was
"a high wind" officials refused to call it a
tornado, all the electricity went out, even the
back up generators went down. There was nothing but darkness 50 officers, 6 nurses and 1500 offenders.

The worst storm I was ever in was Hurricane Andrew. That was while I was living in Miami. This past Friday was the 15TH anniversary! WOW! How time flies!

In 2004, while living here in Orlando, I went through Hurricane Charley. It was bad but not as bad as Andrew. After Charley we were only one of five houses to loose power. IT was in August, so it got so hot with no A/C, I had to spend the night at my sister and Brother-in-laws home. While there I spent some time on their computer.

AND IN DOING SO, at the spur of the moment, I decided taking a cruise would be nice. So while using their computer on line, I booked my very first cruise. It was a 4 day cruise on the Sovereign of the Seas. The next night, or so, I discovered this website. And after a month of reading the posts in this chatroom, I decided to join-in and be a member.

By the way, I was never in a storm while out at sea on a cruise. I have been lucky with my 3 cruises so far.
