I can barely stand going to Wal-Mart on a regular day, and most certainly not on the day after Thanksgiving. It was quite disturbing to hear a clerk was trampled to death at a Long Island Wal-Mart this morning, by the mob crashing through the doors as they opened. The same mob also trampled a pregnant woman causing her to miscarry according to some reports. The hooligans barely gave notice or room to the EMTs as they desperately tried to revive the clerk.
So for the sake of getting one of the 26" LCD HDTVs for $129, a life is confirmed lost, a baby possibly gone, and a woman traumatized for the rest of her life. They finally closed the store and I guess declared it a crime scene.
Wow.. That is sad. Normally we wake up early and hit the bigger sales. I refuse to go to walmart early though. Maybe that's a good thing. This year we slept in and went out at 7AM and still got everything we were targeting. But we were not trying for any of the "door busters".
I can't imagine people trampling a store clerk as they pushed into a store.

The morning newspaper had a picture of a woman who brought a charcoal grill along for her overnight wait in a early bird line. There she was, grilling hamburgers on the sidewalk, bottle of lighter fluid dangerously close to the grill.
The first thing that comes to my mind is the large number of teenagers and other employees who must report to work in time for a 3:00 am or 4:00 am opening. I don't think I'd want my son anywhere near these places.

Our nephew works for Target and he had to show up at 3am today. It's crazy. We haven't had anyone killed down here but I can guarantee reading about at least one fistfight in tomorrow's paper. They arrested several people who got into it a few years ago over a Tickle-Me-Elmo at a local Walmart. The usual scenario - one left on the shelf and everyone claimed it as theirs.
Me too. It is much easier. I order things and the brown truck delivers them. The biggest thing for me is not having to deal with crowds. Despite my on-line persona, I am not one who enjoys a crowd.
I ended up going to Wally World last night after 11PM. I actually wasn't Christmas shopping and only needed a specialty battery. The electronics dept was still busy and the store was trashed!
I'm sure glad I wasn't there earlier. I don't like crowds either, and I don't like rude people. When I was going in they had a senior citizen working the carts and the exit security alarm as usual. This woman set the alarm off, when the older lady working there checked her receipt (as is her job) the woman was rude as all get out. She said "all my stuff is in bags, and you didn't check the person ahead of me."
If it was that nuts at 11PM..I can't imagine being there for the door busters. My dad and uncle went in to another one to get one of the 42" LCD's and they told them they never had them anyway.
