The market will be brutal today, given the WaMu collapse and the breakdown of the government bailout.

I don't sweat it that much. Most of my portfolio is in Exxon Mobile and Google which I bought in the initial IPO. I am all about long term growth versus short term potential. I have made some terrible stock decisions in the past but I am still out of the red. My wife's portfolio is heavy with gold and stock in Pepsi. She outperformed me last year (because of the spike in precious metals) but I am going to prevail this year.

With us, we are in the red on everything right now. However we can't touch most of it until 59.5 years old anyway. A lot can happen in 8 years.

I am surprised at how Wall St seems fairly calm so far today.

Isn't there an old Wall Street saying, "the only thing certain about the market is its uncertainty" (or something like that).

Well I guess my brilliant prediction proved wrong . The market is such a irrational place.

It'll be interesting to see what the parachuttes are for the big-wigs of these firms. I'd like to receive multi-millions of dollars for running a company into the ground. We all know, they're not going to lose a dime. How do I get one of those jobs?

What a drop today. Our leaders need to quit talking, quit pointing fingers and do something. This has gone far enough.

Yeah, my portfolio took a big hit today as I'm sure most others did.

A reminder to everyone that we need to be mindful of our forum rules about politics. Please exercise good judgment when posting. We can allow posts as long as it doesn't become a partisan battle. If someone is emotional when posting, it is a good idea to not post and cool down first. I am as angry as can be about the debacle we have witnessed over the past week. Leadership is doing the right thing despite the personal price. Everyone in DC failed that test today.

"Mediocre people are always at their best" would be a good assessment of the situation.

There's nowhere to hide! This crisis is taking everything down.
And all this a month before an election! Exciting times. Scary, but exciting.
