I haven't seen ground round for $1.99/lb. in years. I bought some real turkey parts yesterday for our Thanksgiving meal. It's so strange, they don't have fresh turkey parts all the time, especially near the holidays. I got a breast and 3 legs. I'll roast one of the legs with the breast for Thanksgiving and make gravy out of the other legs unless I can find a back. Backs and necks make great gravy.
Dwayne, you'll be having Halloween dinner on board. Not sure what I'll be serving, maybe some type of gruel. American Chop Suey or goulash?

I hope some pumpkin soup at least too.
I made a boo boo - pun intended, and meant ground chuck. I don't like ground round because it is too dry for my tastes. Funny you should mention turkey. I had home made turkey soup tonight. I bought a small frozen turkey when they had them on sale after New Years and forgot it was in the freezer until I reorganized it this past weekend. I swear I never know what I'm going to find in there sometimes with it being a chest type.
I've got to clean out my chest freezer, too. I know I've got stuff from my garden 3 years ago in there somewhere. I think I've got a chicken and maybe a ham in there, but I need to go freezer diving one weekend in the not to distant future.
Even ground chuck is too dang expensive. I know I'm old, but I can remember it for $.69/lb. They had a test on MSN the other day to find out what your time was worth. They based it on your income, vs. expendenitures. It worked out for me to $5.64/hour, so that means I'm less than minimum wage. No wonder I have trouble balacing the incoming with the outgoing
We just got some lobster tails for $3 each (I think they were 4 oz each) I figured that they were about the size you get from a pound and a half lobster, so that was a good deal.
I agree on the cost of hamburger and steak though.. seems that lately the price has almost doubled...

Not lobster costs, but the price of a Big Mac in Iceland has caused McDonald's to shutdown all three of their restaurants on the island nation. If you are especially bored you can read about it here
I had to laugh at the one blogger who called McDonald's "a symbol of American colonialism". Yes indeed. We've always lusted for Iceland as a colony and secretly planned to take over by using french fries and Happy Meals.
