I just want to scream.

Be aware that if you ever fly Virgin Atlantic out of the UK they have a 13 pound limit for carry-on weight. My new carry-on bag weighs 10 lbs empty.

The airlines are at it again.
penny - Both United and American have announced an additional $10/pp surcharge for holiday travel around Thanksgiving and New Year's (I'm not sure about Christmas)!!

Pretty soon they'll be charging a clothing fee!!! There is no end to this!!

Dave - Don't tell them how much your carry on weighs - they're looking for ways to charge for that too!!!

I didn't fly with VA, but Lisa did. As she told me, they had scales at the gate and weighed her carry-on.

I am flying to Orlando Friday for my cruise on the Glory, Saturday.
the price for the ticket from RDU to Orlando round trip was 136.00 After they added the fees and taxes and more fees the total price was 194.00 and I booked 6 months out. Ok so now they have 15.00 baggage fee for first bag. so now at a minimum I am spending another 30 dollars to get my clothes there and back. have the price of a one way ticket. so now my 136.00 ticket is costing me 224.00... how insane is that. Next yr for my cruise on the Dream, I am driving a rental car.

That is pretty nuts. When I cruise out of Miami I fly out of RDU as well. That was a pretty good fare before they added everything else. I used to get a deal with them when my sister worked for them at RDU...those days are gone now.

Yes, although we were fortunate that it was at check-in and that our checked bags had not yet been taken away. My carry-on tote contained books, so it was easily over the limit. But I was concerned about those books as I would have had no idea how to replace them if they got lost.

I'll have to do some creative packing for our spring cruise out of Barcelona.

I booked roundtrip from DFW to Richmond, and got a great deal on AirTran....$51 each way/pp. So, the $102 roundtrip/pp plus $48 taxes = $150. However, they do charge an extra $7 each way if you choose your seat assignement! How ridiculous is that? They do have larger overheads, so the carry-on size is larger....we can carry-on all we need to avoid the extra $$ for checked baggage.

When are they going to start weighing passengers and charging by weight and width?

So much goes into selecting a flight, time of day, stops vs nonstop, baggage fees, ticket fees, seat fees....add everything up. Then I put a price on my time, a cheap flight can be very expensive. If I am going to spend time in an airport, that is gonna cost money, too. So many times a direct flight costs more, but the "overall cost" is less.
