I'm sure many of us will be watching the games. The opening ceremony was truly stunning. Sadly though, the mood is somber now that two American tourists were attacked and one killed.
I like to watch swimming and gymnastics. I also look to assess the worst sport in the games. I have an early frontrunner - team handball. It does not work well on TV. You can't see the ball too well so it looks like a bunch of people running back and forth hitting each other.
Oh yes. The rifles look like electron microscopes with a bunch of clamps and such on them. That is certainly worthy of addition to the list.
Earlier I saw Women's Fencing where the U.S. swept the medals. Very strange. They would lunge at each other, then screech like shrikes, and a point would be scored by someone.
Yes, the opening ceremonies were incredible. When they were doing the boxes, I thought it was computer and mechanically done. I couldn't believe it was people in the boxes. The torch lighting topped it off. I thought the torch almost went out and the guy on the wire almost fell. It was the most exciting thing to watch.
The Olympics can never be free of controversy it seems. I hate fried liver and onions, but I'll eat a plate of it if anyone can prove to me those Chinese girls on the gymnastics team meet the age requirement. Faked Chinese passports are not allowed.
All I know is my Mom isn't happy about this. She watches all of the gymnastics. She didn't think they were of the specified age to compete. She told me this prior to the events, and before it was on the news. I personally don't care how old they are, as long as everyone follows the same rules.
I don't trust them much after they faked the opening ceremony song with the little girl. That must have been heartbreaking for the child. "Your voice is perfect, but you are not good looking enough to sing"?
Every time our Anthem is played, I thank God again I live in the USA.
