This is just too sad, he passed away. He and Carson were the elite.

Yes, the end of an era; they were a class act all the way.

I will second that. I miss a lot of those old timers. Did I just date myself?

Well, I'll date myself, no one has ever come close to that team. Leno, Letterman or O'Brian are nowhere near Carson/McMahon. Light years away. I didn't realize Ed had so many children. He sure will be missed.

Ed was originally from Lowell, Mass. and he frequently returned there in his later years to visit family and friends. He would mingle tirelessly with the townspeople and was a favorite character at any public affair. Needless to say at the many activities he came to - he always brought the Budweiser Clydsdales and wagon! At these affairs he was a friend to even the humblest person!

Rest in Peace Ed - you are greatly missed by us all!

Among other achievements in his life, Ed McMahon was a Marine Corps.fighter pilot with 6 Air Medals and had flown in both WWII and Korea (He did FAC in 0-1's). He retired from USMC Reserve as a full Colonel. He later became a Brigadier General in the California Air National Gaurd! He was a true American Hero!

Thanks billybuzzy, I had no clue he was a colonel or a general. Wow, what a full life he led.

I have to second the idea that Johnny Carson and Ed McMahan were the greatest team ever. todays Late night shows can not compare to the magic that Johnny and Ed had together... Really a sad day for the entertainment industry. We have all lost a great entertainer.
