Here is another Alabama item...well, an Athens, Alabama item. This morning's Athens News Courier newspaper headline: Back Yard Burgers To Open Tuesday.

Our state Public Service Commission decided to overlay a new area code within our existing 256 code area in north Alabama. This instead of splitting things up into two separate area codes. New phone numbers will get the new area code. When it goes into effect next year every call made will have to use the area code. No more dialing 7 digits. I'll have to dial the area code to call my next door neighbor.

What's next??? Forcing you to use the nine-digit zip code on all mailings??
