:)

CruiseDad, you'll love it. It's really a palm top computer that also makes phone calls. It's actually very easy to use. You'll get the hang of it!

I've had an iPhone since the first model was introduced and it has become indispensable to me. I can do almost as much on the iPhone as I can do on a regular computer. I've managed this website via the iPhone, adjusting settings and other controls. Who would have thought that possible just a few years ago?

So I'll just have to practice and make my fingers smaller,:D

Sometimes I try to make a simple phone call and it just starts couting off seconds and I never hear any ringing, I don't know if I dialed or not.

I don't have an iPhone, yet I do have a BlackBerry for work. Whoever designed it must have had exceptional up-close vision and teeny fingers. My personal phone, on the other hand, is just a phone. I've had it since 2005 and it hasn't let me down. That said, I'm debating whether or not to get an iPhone just to have the features that didn't exist in 2005 (or 2010, for that matter!).

There are likely some videos on YouTube that can walk you through some of the initial steps.

I'm actually thinking about getting an iPhone once my contract is up in October 2012, or earlier, since I'm most likely eligible for an upgrade in probably August. Right now I have a BlackBerry, but RIM (the company that makes BlackBerry) is struggling.

Dave:

Did you ever use your iPhone on a cruise?

I am thinking about some sort of cellphone/Internet capable device to bring along with me during one of my future cruises. My laptop maybe too big/bulky to bring along.

I have used the Internet cafe onboard the cruise ships. But they were really expensive. I thought it would be better just to use my device to compose an email message; maybe attach a photo or two. Then I would quickly log on to the ship's wireless network, send the email(s), check for any new emails, then quicky log-off.

Has anyone done something similar to that while on a cruise?

I've used my iPad on cruises since 2010 as my main 'computer'. Of course that meant I was using the ship's internet. I shut my iPhone off when we leave port and it stays in the safe until we arrive home.

Yes, before I bought a Galaxy Tablet I used my Droid X. I kept it in "Airplane" mode when it was turned on so I couldn't receive calls or messages--that could get a little expensive. I could use some of the apps without worrying about that.

Hope that helps

Don't forget that you can almost always find a free wifi hot spot in port. This is a great question for the crew, as many of them like to send emails from port. They can tell you which is closest to the dock.
