Folk Singer Mary Travers, of Peter,Paul and Mary has passed away this evening at Danbury Hospital in Danbury, CT. She had been suffering for several years with Leukemia. She gave much musical pleasure to many generations and her musical contributions will be long remembered by all!

I had the good fortune to see her in concert with the group in Hartford, Ct. almost exactly one year ago. At that time she was on oxygen but she sang as great as ever. The standing ovation at the end of the concert lasted nearly 30 minutes.

Rest in Peace Mary. My thoughts are with your family in their great sadness.

I'm sad about the passing of a musical icon as well. I knew almost all of Peter, Paul and Mary's songs. Their song, "Leaving On A Jet Plane" became "our" song in 1969 because my then-fiance and I were living in different cities.

We saw PP&M perform almost every year here at Wolf Trap, outside Washington, DC. They were supposed to perform on August 22, but an announcement was emailed to ticket holders (including me) that Mary was too ill to perform, but Peter and Paul would still be performing a tribute concert to her and their music. I ended up not going because of another commitment, and I would imagine as good as the men are, it just wasn't the same without Mary.

I was sad to hear this news as well.

The harmony will never be the same. The icons seem to be leaving us fast.

Rest in Peace Mary. My thoughts are with your family.

"Leaving on a Jet Plane".

Oh my. I hadn't followed them for a while and didn't know she was ill. Leaving On A Jet Plane was a popular song with us military types when we were deployed overseas. But really, is there any song by PP&M that wasn't popular?

I remember the furor over the Puff The Magic Dragon lyrics being a sly reference to smoking pot.

Blowin In The Wind with a youthful PP&M.

That was back when music actually had something to say. From what I heard this morning, she had complications from chemo. I loved their music and am saddened to hear that she lost her battle. They said she had undergone a successful bone marrow transplant back in 2006, but I guess it reared it's ugly head again. RIP.

Their music will last forever.

Here is a sorta lame version by John Denver in support of our troops, may he RIP also.

Everyone that has been on a Carnival cruise most likely has heard this version.

So many great and memorable songs by this group and they continued to draw crowds right up to the end of Mary's life. Her great voice made the group.
