Sadly, one of the Lungers from the country of Georgia was killed today when his sled flipped.

I actually heard about the luge accident from a guy at work. Here is a link to an article on the NBC site.

Also, another skier was injured a couple days ago. Stacey Cook was injured on Thursday doing a jump. She was able to walk under her own power, but was airlifted to a hospital as a precaution. Here is an article about that injury.

It sure did get off to a bad start with the tragic death of the Georgia athlete. It was pretty sad watching them come in during the parade of nations. Then the cauldron had a mechanical failure during the opening ceremonies.

I watched most of the men's short track skating last night and it was pretty exciting. Way to go Apolo!

Yes, the short track last night was exciting to watch. I watched most of the prime time coverage last night as well.

I also watched the women's moguls skiing last night, and loved the reaction of Hannah Kearney and her teammate (I can't think of her name right now), screaming and hugging each other after they found out that Kearney won gold. I also thought that was good sportsmanship by the athletes either congratulating, or in a few cases, maybe consoling (if they fell), their fellow competitors.

I saw the highlights of that. It really has been an exceptional display of sportsmanship going by the events I've watched so far.

My son and I got so excited by the finish of the Nordic combined with 3 US skiiers in the top 8 that we were standing and leaning and skiing in the living room. We were both X country racers in our high school days. Very nice to have scored the Silver. We were very impressed the FRA skiier's kick at exactly the right moment to overtake the US guy with only meters to go.

I was also glad to see Canada win a Gold. My community band played O Canada last night in honor of the event.

Yesterday it was time for Norway to finally win the first gold medal in the games when Marit Bjorgen won the women's Nordic Ski sprint.

But the one who impressed me the most and almost moved me to tears was the Slovenian bronze medal winner, Petra Majdic , who early in the qualification fell and injured herself in the ribs/back region. She gathered all her strength and fought herself to a bronze medal That's what I call a true athlete.

Svein-I saw that also, very moving and inspiring. Congrats on Norway's first gold medal. I have heard them talking about the lack of medals so far from Norway. The rate that China is going, they'll outnumber all of us probably. Time will tell.....Lil' Lori
