And Happy Thanksgiving to all. My Dad usually had to work the Holidays when we were young. After we were older, he worked them so the Younger Dads could have time with their family.
Gary, your Dad sounds like my old boss when I worked in the food service industry. He wouldn't let any other managers work on the off season holidays unless he had to, especially Christmas eve. He said we were supposed to be with our families. He would even share his bonus with us. I hold him in very high regard as a man that always thought of others first.
Tim, Gotta have the deviled eggs! That is one thing I forgot while grocery shopping. I like mine made with dill pickle salad cubes or relish, and a little vinegar.
We do a nontraditional Thanksgiving in our house, as it's usually just the three of us, with maybe one or two friends. (We stopped making the 6-hour, 150-mile drive to see family years ago -- yes, your math is right.) With such a small group, we decided to go for someting different. So, every year, Thanksgiving only, my husband makes rack of lamb. It's a special meal for a special day. Mint jelly, green beans, baked or mashed potatoes, and pumpkin pie round out the menu. (Mincemeat pie sounds great, though!)
I feel like a turkey for other than the usual reasons...I am stuffed!!
I must have been really hungry as I ate two plates. Then my mom makes different pies and of course I have to try both. As soon as I got home it was sweat pants city!
