Soon, very soon, perhaps in a matter of hours I will have my first grandson.

So I'm ready for all the advise from others that have gone before me. Lay it on me!

Wish I could help, but I have no grandchildren. In fact our only child just turned 15 in July.

Congratulations, CruiseDad! That certainly is fantastic news. Spoil them rotten, then give them back to mom and dad. It's payback time Don't be a built-in babysitter, but do spend as much time as you can because they grow up so very quickly. As soon as he's potty trained, break him into cruising

Best wishes to all!

As a first-time father to a daughter who turned 5 mos. yesterday, make sure that either parent is not overwhelmed. There are many parents out there with multiple children who think childcare is a breeze. First-time mommies and daddies can easily, speaking from experience, feel that they are barely treading water in a whirlpool of responsibility. Just be there for the new parents and offer them any support that is needed.

Congratulations!
We have twelve, ranging in age from 5 months to 18 years. All but one lives within six miles of us. No special training is required be grand parents. Just spoil them rotten and then send 'em home!

Thanks everyone. Phillip finally arrived at 7PM tonight. 8lbs 13.4 oz and 21 inches. Amy underwent C-section but everyone is fine.

And the advise about not letting the new parents get overwhelmed is very good. And after the last 2 days I will heed it.

Perhaps I will ultimately become cruiseGrandDad

Phillip is a good-sized boy! Congratulations to the parents, and grandparents! I hope both mother and son are doing well (the father and grandfather too).
