That's so strange, RichC. The Crown was before the Emerald, so you would think that they had learned from their mistakes. But....the Ruby was after the Emerald.

the airlines will probably make the seats smaller when they do an interior overhaul.
I think it is just the beginning of things to come. we will end up paying for weight not per person.
I think being overweight, is the new cause to pick on people... it was cigarette smoking before. Everyone made cigarette smokers feel like 2nd class citizens. I think it is weight now. Now I am not a mean or cruel person so I am not going to jump on this band wagon. If the airlines have a problem with a persons size charge by weight, that would be more fair to everyone.

I think the logic of some of the airline's new rule is flawed. What if a body builder or some huge muscle mass person were unable to fit in the seat, how would they handle that situation? This person isn't "fat" but still heavy.

I am a petite person but still find the seats to be uncomfortable. Maybe a re-design is in order.

I suppose they would be subjected to the same rule. Why not since they take up more than the allotted space? I personally don't care that they charge people extra but what I don't like is the larger person hanging over into my area. If they can't stay in their area then charge them extra for two seats but don't force me to give them part of my space.

The seats are VERY uncomfortable. It's more like an army transport than a passenger jet. Maybe they could start charging by cubic feet/weight, whichever the two is greater? That way they can really make us feel like cargo.

In January we flew to Grenada...I got an aisle seat but my seat mates had been bumped from 1st class to economy. glad I did not have my window seat.
They were POS & stuffed into the seats also had encroached on my space.
They had booked 1st class so I cannot blame them but why should I suffer.
My cousin (who was POS) for years had to pay extra for her seat when she flew so this is nothing new but recently the Canadian Government changed the rule ...the politicians fly first class so they do not care about others.

There is also a safety issue...they base the number of seat on the average weight of 155 lbs pp(which should be changed) so having every seat full & maybe 25% with of POS the plane is overloaded.
As mentioned above what if they are blocking an exit or cannot get out of their seat in an emergency.
Carry-on's is another pet peeve

Depending on where you want to go, chartering an airplane can be surprisingly affordable. Of course weight becomes even more important as the airplane size decreases. For instance, put me and a similar sized person in a Cessna 152 and we could only load fuel for 30 minutes or so of flying.

Oh boy, one more reason, the first being my health, to start losing weight. I am saving miles to upgrade our seats to first class....
