We were in our late 30s when Jacob arrived. Waiting to have children usually means having more mature and financially sound parents - two big plusses.

One caution - while the kid can eat Cap'n Crunch and Happy Meals with reckless abandon, an older person's metabolism will get in the way.

Congratulations! My kids are grown, 17 and 22, but I still remember what it was like when they were young.

My biggest tip would be to not only have a date night out, as was suggested earlier, but to also expose your child to different atmospheres and people from the beginning. My children, as infants and toddlers, went everywhere with us: restaurants, trips, hotels, etc... because of this, they knew how to behave in public.

I believe that the children you see "acting up" in public are doing so because they were not exposed to it early on and do not know how to cope with new situations.

That is just my opinion.

Good luck and keep us posted!

I think that's a great policy and I support your view 100 % Our little son has been all over in restaurants, airplanes, ferrys, buses etc and from the very beginning he was behaving very well. (That can change of course )

We are not so anxious to have "date nights" as we enjoy going out as a family so much. But that's us, I completely understand other couples that need som time as a couple.

In fact, let's change the title for this thread to something more appropriate!

I feel like Ricky Ricardo should break out in song, "We're having a baby, my baby and me".

Congratulations to you and Mrs. dr!

As for words of wisdom, I don't think you need much -- you seem to have it covered when you say you're going to act like a parent.
