Thsi is the first time me and my family are cruising. Any suggestions on how to get upgrades and any suggestions for shore excursions? We are going to Kings Wharf, St Thomas and Tortolla. We have a 14 yr old boy and 12 yr old girl.

Seems like this is a popular cruise. In Bermuda, the only thing that I remember is Horseshoe Bay, beautiful pink sand beach. You can take the local bus in Bermuda and visit the island. In St. Thomas-grab the ferry to St. John and then a cab to Trunk Bay for a beautiful beach, self-guided snorkel trail about 50 yds. off-shore, all amenities are available. St. Thomas is also good for shopping and they have some good beaches, not as good a Trunk Bay, but Magan's Bay, Coki Beach and Sapphire Beach are nice. Any catamaran sail/snorkel excursion is great there. Tortolla is beautiful, there's a nice beach on the northwest side of the island. There's a nice cove, I think it's called honeymoon cove with a good beach. We did 2 catamaran sail/snorkels there that were good. I've heard good reviews about the Baths in Virgin Gorda, but have not personally taken the tour. Best wishes and have a wonderful cruise!
The Spirit is kind of old fashion in several ways. First, most of the aft facing decks are open to the public, where you can sit in the sun or shade and watch the ship's wake, without having to pay for an aft facing suite. Second, there's a wrap around Promenade Deck, great for an evening stroll around the ship. Third, there's many more teak decks, instead of some rubber or astroturf plastic products.
In many ways, the Spirit is also modern. First, it has three decks of balcony cabins, for those who wish to open up the doors and breathe fresh air in their cabins. Second, it has many restaurant choices, from buffets and main restaurants, to speciality restaurants that feature French, Italian, and Asian cuisine, and a steakhouse for those who love beef and potatoes. Third, it has a large Kids Crew area, so the kids can have fun too.
Have a great cruise.
Good luck - did this cruise last year and it was like staying at motel 6 , when other cruise lines were like Hiltons ! NCL sucks, food sucks, staff sucks, shows suck, route sucks, entertainment, well, couldn't really call it that-but it sucked too.
Go with RCCL or Carnival if you actually wanna have fun.
Once again - a cruise is what YOU make of it -
Spirit is great - loved our cruise, staff, food, entertainment and balcony room !! Everyone has an opinion - make you're own, when you get back.... Have a wonderful time!!
eaglesrlife, Sounds like you’re a lot of fun to cruise with, I have never been on a bad cruise, sorry you had such a bad experience with NCL, my wife and I have been on 4 NCL cruises and loved everyone including the NCL Spirit and doing a 10 day in Feb. 2008. on NCL Gem. A cruise is what you make it. SueKopAC you will love the Spirit it’s a great ship.
Good Luck
Joe
I just got off Norwegian Spirit today. My cruise was from July 15 to July 21. We went to Florida and Bahamas, so I can't help you with shore excursions. I am 14, and my sister is 15. We hated the teen program. They were unwelcoming and once you missed the first couple of events, you really couldn't go to any others because all the teens already had their own 'groups' and 'cliques'. When we went to the teen orientation and get the parent permission slips, she didn't even give us the schedule [she didn't even mention a schedule], so we didn't even know of the events until the following day. I know when you read this, you will already be off your cruise [unless you go to the Internet Cafe]. I hope you kids have better luck with the Teen Program. I've heard many mixed reviews about the Norwegian Spirit, and I still don't know where I stand. I went on one other cruise before this, Carnival Victory, and as I compare this one to that one, Carnival wins by a mile. But I hope you have fun!
