We have booked a Dec ( norwegian cruise line )
trip thru the Hawaiian Islands. The confusion is Norwegian Cruise pamphlets indicate that Hawaii will not allow them to open up the casino. Encore cruise pamphlet (which we booked thru) doesn't indicate this anywhere. Has anybody taken the cruise recently and can help me out on this (or anything else for that matter).

Hi:
I'm leaving Sunday Nov. 17 to board in Honolul on the 18th. My travel agent assured me that the Casino WILL be CLOSED during our cruise , and apparently the reason has to do with international waters. Anyways, if you'd like you can email me at "frjnearSSM@hotmail.com" and I will respond when I return from the cruise to let you know for sure. I am also on a 11 day Hawaiin cruise.
John

As far as I know, there is no casino at all on the Norwegian Star, which sails Hawaii fulltime, and the casino on any other ships which sail in Hawaii will be closed. This is due to Hawaii state law, and the agreement that NCL has in order to be allowed to offer Hawaii cruises.

The rule as I understand it is; If your ship starts the cruise in Hawaii and finishes in another country ie: Mexico, the casino can be open whenever the ship is cruising the islands and is more than three miles from shore. If your cruise starts and finishes in Hawaii you will not see any casino open at any time. This ruling has caused problems for NCL's Hawaiian cruises particularly.
Just came off an 11 night cruise on 'Infinity' departing from Honolulu going to Mexico. Casino open every evening while in Hawaiian territory except the first night when we were docked in Honolulu. After cruising the islands, we cruised for four days on our way to Ensenada. During that time, I do not think the casino ever closed except for early morning hours cleaning.
