Going on the Spirit out on NYC to Bahamas
Do I need a passport?
Also is there any way to get form CT to NYC port witout driving - does NCL sponser a bus?
Any other help tips are greatly appreciated!!!
The passport regulations for cruising were delayed another year. You will need a raised letter copy of your birth certificate and a photo ID. Go ahead and make arrangements for a passport because it will be required one day in the near future. it is easy to put it off, but not so easy to get when you really need it.

When is your cruise? If it is this year then you will not need a passport for cruising to The Bahamas - just photo ID and either an original or official copy of a birth certificate (note this means an original or copy issued by a government agency, a notorized copy is no good). However, if something happened during the cruise which required that you fly home then you are in a different situation. For when your plane landed in the good ol' USA, they'll be asking for a passport because that is the rule for air travel right now, and they aren't going to care that you left the country on a ship.
I see the geniuses who run the NCL website have conflicting info on the passport thing. A link on the homepage has outdated information from several months ago, before they delayed the passport rule for cruisers another year. However the correct info is listed in the FAQ area.

As a Notary Public in Florida I want to add that most states do not even allow notaries to certify birth certificates. Certified birth certificates should be always obtained from a government agency.
We are sailing to the Bahamas in March on the Spirit as well. Which date are you sailing the 4th or 18th? The identification you need is an origional birth certificate or a certified copy with a raised seal and a photo id either liscence or county id passports arent necessary yet. you will love the spirit we sailed to St Thomas 8/5/06 on the Spirit loved it so much were going on another cruise already. One bit of advice Dont overpack, we did and boy I wont be doing that again. Enjoy!

we sail on the 4th... I'm soooo excited!
Lots of ??'s still. Kinda worried about attire - we are a working family - not a lot of extra cash to go around! Hubby fits everything - me - not so much - worried I will be under dressed ?!? Any suggestions - and please don't tell me 'resort casual' - I don't live in a resort :-)
During the days, shorts, t-shirts, swim suits, water shoes (or sandals or tennies). At night, a nice pair of slacks and a nice top or maybe a sun dress. NCL is far more casual than other lines, so you need not worry. Have a wonderful time and enjoy your cruise!
