Cruising on the Majesty

Hello!
I'm obviously new here. I'm Jessica and I'm from Washington, NC.
As a gift to ourselves for Christmas and our Birthdays, my hubby and I are sailing on the Majesty leaving Nov. 12-19 from Charleston.

I'm just looking for tips on shore excursions, parking and anything else useful.
We cruised on Carnival Facination a little over a year ago. Are there any major differences?

I'm from NC. My normal attire in November is jeans. I know it'll be warmer farther south but will it be warm enough to just bring shorts?

Pleasse consider packing some slacks. To eat at the main restaurants, a nice dress or slacks will be required. Shorts and jeans are not allowed in the main restaurants after 5:30 pm.

sounds great! Our last cruise was in April, so cruising when it's cold is comepletely foreign to me!

completely off topic, but I know a Ron Clark and I just can't imagine you're him, but are you a teacher by any chance?

Welcome to Cruise-Chat Jessica. We have sailed on the Majesty twice from Charleston..1st time we were not too happy with her..but on the 2nd cruise it was like being on a different ship. We actually sailed the first time the first year that she came to Charleston so there were some kinks to be worked out, by the second cruise it was a whole lot nicer. Why did we take a chance a book on her a second time since we were not to impressed with her the first time?? Price and port of embarkation...decided to give it a second chance.

Yes there are many differences between Majesty and Carnival ships. First thing, there is no assigned seating in the dining rooms, it is a free style dining, so you just go to the dining room anytime from around 5:30 until 10:00 each night and you are seated either alone or with others based on your request. (this is not my favorite part of the cruise as I love being seated at the same table night after night with the same people, but others love this apsect of it). The ship is considerably smaller than Fascination she only holds around 1488 people. But that is not necessarily a bad thing, you meet people and continue seeing the same ones day after day. (we just got off Carnival Triumph from Charleston yesterday and we met people on there and never saw them again the whole cruise).

Parking at the port was $12.00/day last year when we went out of Charleston, but we just left out of Port of Charleston last Tuesday and it was $15.00/day..so not sure if that had to do with it being Carnival or if the price has gone up totally. I've some bad news for you, Hurricane Wilma destroyed Cosumel. The latest from NCL's web site:

I'm actually fine with that! Last year we were in Cozumel and hated it. This year were are looking forward to Key West - and now it appears we get more time there.
