NCL Tulum Shore Excursion...anyone done it???

I don't know if they have changed the tour, but I took it in 1999. Not bad - very crowded the day we were there (about 15 busloads of people) but the guide was very knowledgeable. However,it was hard to hear unless you were fairly close to him, especially for those w/ hearing difficulties. Beautiful location, fascinating place. We did stop at an area w/ outdoor shops on the way there, but there were restrooms (just ok, but serviceable) which were welcome for some. [img]/infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif[/img]

Thank you Karen. I wanted to do the tour with either a private guide or on our own but because of the length of the tour am afraid that we risk missing the ship. SInce it is our first cruise I would hate to mess up!

I would definitely agree that you might have a risk of missing the ship. Remember, if you are doing this tour from Cozumel, you need to allow the time for tendering over from the island to the mainland. Off the top of my head, I think that was about a 1/2 hour trip each way. Even if your ship stops briefly offshore of the mainland in the morning, then goes to Cozumel the rest of the day, you'll still have a tender ride on the return. (Take some seasickness precautions for the tender ride - they can be very rocky if the sea is anything more than flat calm.) And even if you do the tour with a private guide, there will still be the crowds from the cruise ships there. My recommendation: stick with the cruise line's shore excursion. Have a great cruise!

To clarify, Bobbie - if you book the Tulum excursion through the ship, they include the tender ride(s) in the timing. K
