I am usually a CCL person, but with all the cuts CCL has been making I thought I would venture out December 19th on NCL's Gem out of NY. I don't feel like flying at that time because the weather is so unpredictable so, I'll be driving to NY the day before, Dec 18th. Any suggestions for a hotel close to the Terminal with a shuttle?
I'm not sure what cutbacks your talking about on CCL. If it's the Captain's party they haven't cut back. They have in fact added because they have two Captain's parties. One on the Promenade with drinks $1 off. The other a Farewell party with free drinks.
You may want to ask about a specific waiter on the Gem. His name is Norman from Jamaica. He is very tall probably 6'6" or more. He was a fabulous waiter I had several years ago. Last I had heard he was on the Gem. However; I don't know if he's still there. Can't miss him though if he is still there. There's not too many Jamaicans that tall!
I have been cruising with CCL since 1994 and have seen many cut backs. To name a few, the midnight buffets, the midnight gala buffet, the happy hour specials, the change from the glass souviner glasses to plastic, the changes in the hor'dorves, the two captain cocktail parties go to one, no more Martini & Rossi Asti Spumante, I can go on and on....,
I doubt if I will get to meet "Norman" the tall Jamaican waiter because NCL is open sitting and is very impersonal when it comes to one on one service.
Guest comments and surveys have shown that most passengers are not interested in midnight buffets, and from a fleet perspective they were normally a waste of both food and crew work hours. Given the food options on most ships these days, the midnight buffet is easily a relic of the past.
You can see the dining room management on the NCL ships and request the same table and waiter for every night. Of course, this limits you to one dining room.
Yes. A co-worker is a notary. She didn't charge me. However, she said she has been called upon at the last minute at the pier when a guest shows up without a notarized document and charged $10. She said some charge $25 because of the travel and the parking fee involved. I guess it worth it instead of being denied boarding and ruining a vacation.
