I just got back from a wonderful cruise on the Norwegian Crown. Unfortunately on Sep 8, our wedding anniversary, my camera was stolen while I was looking at T shirts in the duty free shop. I was so distraught that this happened on an otherwise perfect cruise that I wrote a letter to the captain! I also filled out their lost item form at the reception desk. I was never contacted by anyone or heard one word in response to my letter. Other passengers told me that there are security cameras in the gift shops and that something should have been done. The camera was valued at $400 and had a $200 memory card in it. Has anyone had any experiences with lost items or know if there is anything I can do?

I am so sorry to hear of this happening on your cruise, not a great way to end. First, did you purchase the travel insurance? If you did then contact them innediately and let them know the value of the stolen items, most travel insurances cover up to $1500.00 in lost, stolen or damaged personal effects and baggage while on the trip. I would also contact my agent and let them know what happened, they can help you contact NCL and make a formal complaint concenring this. Good luck.

I "lost" a camera on an airplane a few years back. I wrote a letter to the president of the airlines. Three days later my camera showed up via Fed-Ex - no accompanying cover letter, just the camera in it's carrying case. The film was still in it. You might also try a letter to the top of the food chain.

Thanks Carol for your suggestions. Unfortunately I did not purchase travel insurance this time! I never knew they covered stolen items. I will call my travel agent and see if he has any suggestions.

Have you checked with your home insurance? I was traveling on a cruise last year that someone in the group lost a brand new diamond bracelet. She was able to claim it on home insurance.
