Money Question

I am going on a cruise (8 day) out of NYC to eastern carib. We are getting to NYC on the 13th of sept (@midnight, so the 14th) and our cruise leaves saturday afternoon. We have a free place to stay. When we return, we are staying in NYC till tuesday the 26th. My question is, How much money will we need? We plan on drinking very little on the cruise (well, their drinks anyway, bringing our own!) and we will not be buying any excursions or playing in the casino either. If we do, (excursions) we will do that ourselves. Any thoughts? Thanks!

What is that you DO plan to spend money on? Where will you be staying post cruise (is that also free)? Four days in NYC can be quite costly depending on what you want to do. Are you planning to eat fast food or eat in nice restaurants? Any clubbing planned? How are you planning to get to and from the port? Taxi fare alone can be costly. Since you have already determined multiple ways to cut down on expenses - I think you just need to decide what you are comfortable spending for incidentals and live within the budget you set. You could conceivably spend no extra pocket money while on the cruise, if that's what you choose, not so once your post cruise plans kick-in. Without specifics, you haven't given much for us to go on when making suggestions (which may be the reason no one has responded).

Hey Nancy, thanks for your reply. All of our nights in NYC are free. We are going to a yankees game for sure, we already got tickets to that. We will walk or ride the bus wherever we go, we will take a cab if we absolutly have to. We will probably go out once in NYC, and see a broadway show. I have 1100 for 2 people right now, but I plan on increasing that by about 200. Yes, our budget will be tight but we should be able to make it work with 1100. If we have to we will make some other cuts when we see them nessessary. I guess all I am trying to find out is will we be able to have a good time?

I usually budget $200 a day. We sometimes spend more, sometimes less. That does NOT include my gambling money, or the bar bill. I think you will be fine. Not sure what your ports of call are, some islands are more expensive than others. New York is expensive period. Best wishes!
