Grab the room when you know it's there....I missed a room once...I made sure it never happened again....
There are other people out there that want your room too......Happy cruising...

Excellent point Bob! What's to lose? You can always cancel before the penalty period or make adjustments to the cabins. If I would not have grabbed my cabin and rate when I did it would have cost 35% more the next day. And who knows if my cabin choice would have been available.
Wow, after trying to get prices for an Alaska cruise I would say NCL is rather deceptive in the prices they quote. I called and requested quotes for ocean view cabins, what I got was port hole cabins. They did not say the cabins didn't have the picture windows like they showed on the website.
Larry,
This is not being deceptive. Technically, an outside cabin is anything with a window. Regardless if the shape is port hole or picture window. It can also be an outside obstructed view. This is a classic example why people should use a Travel Agent. A cruise oriented Travel Agent most likely would take the time to explain the difference. Most cruise line reservation agents have little experience in qualifying clients. They give them exactly what they ask for. They are trained to answer the phone and make the sale as quickly as possible.
I did not ask for an "outside cabin", I said "ocean view" which I have always seen defined as a cabin with a view of the ocean not a small hole to peer through to see the ocean. I did mention that the cabin on the website looks nice, they never said that's not what you are going to get. I did make sure they were not obstructed on the first call.
Actually after that experience I am going through a TA for this booking.
In booking Carnival and RCCL I never had that happen. As you can see I have done a few cruises on Carnival.
I caught this before booking so it's not a big deal.
I hope you enjoy NCL, they really are a good line, at least my 4 cruises through them have been good. We were on the Sky last year, she was beautiful. Small cabin, but the ship was immaculate and the staff was great. Oh, don't miss the sticky buns for breakfast-yummy!
Larry,
Oceanview and outside are used interchangably in the cruise industry. For instance if you would look up the Carnival Inspiration a 5A Port hole is listed as oceanview. Some of the NCL ships have large port holes and provide just as much view as some square windows. My recent Danube River Cruise had two very large round port hole windows.
Fortunately you caught it though before actually booking. Happy cruising.
